August 03, 2005 – Noida, India – Having achieved the CMM Level 5 assessment in May of 2003, and having the experience of managing and improving the processes for the past 2 years, Momentum Technologies has embarked upon its new initiative to have its processes compliant with the requirements of CMMI Level 5 – Staged representation (CMMI-SE/SW) by Dec 2005/Jan 2006.

The following are just some of the milestones in Momentum’s path for meeting this goal:

• Documentation (includes alignment of processes with CMMI requirements)
• Implementation and Training across the organization
• Measurement and Analysis of Data
• Pre-Appraisal
• SCAMPI Appraisal and Certification

“Momentum’s progress towards CMMI certification is going smoothly and as per plan.” says Harish Sinha, who leads the Quality program at Momentum.

Momentum began the CMMI initiative by identifying the gap between its existing defined and documented processes and the requirements of CMMI. The CMMI framework has undergone major re-structuring with the redefining of its Process Areas at different levels. It has brought along more detailed level identification and definition for various project execution processes. It has also streamlined the data collection, analysis and process improvement activities by focusing more on measurable target settings and controls.

Having achieved the above milestone, it was imperative that the existing processes were either grouped or divided to be aligned with the requirements of CMMI. Added to the need was the opportunity to integrate various procedures in such a way that they become more cohesive and aligned. The complete organization process assets were reviewed and the new set was finalized keeping in mind the continuity and applicability.

The training for all new processes will be undertaken in parallel for the development team, allowing the processes to be introduced at the earliest opportunity.
