Momentum profiled by BCBusiness in its article on IT outsourcing
January 21, 2005 - Vancouver, BC – Momentum Technologies, a global provider of outsourced software development services, announced that BCBusiness, a leading Business Monthly published in Vancouver, has talked about its offshore software services in its January, 2005 issue.
According to BCBusiness ”Offshoring is the practice of shipping certain components of software development (i.e., jobs) to countries such as India in order to benefit from cheaper labour costs. Other elements of the offshoring trend include the movement of entire call centers overseas. It is a rapidly growing trend, one that will likely affect a job near you . . . or your job”.
Talking about Momentum, BCBusiness reports “At the same time as the big offshoring companies focus on the Fortune 1000 companies, a growing number of smaller offshoring companies are providing similar services for small to medium-size businesses. Take, for example, Vancouver-based Momentum Technologies. Founded in 1999 by Indian entrepreneur and software engineer Pankaj Agarwal, the company provides quality offshore software services from its development centre in a suburb of Delhi”
As per BCBusiness “It’s no surprise that offshoring has sparked a bitter debate, especially in the United States, where nightly rants by prominent broadcasters such as CNN’s Lou Dobbs have made fighting offshoring and its subsequent loss of jobs a national priority. There have been heated calls for new laws and government action. The voices here in B.C. have been more muted but the concern is just as great”.
Momentum’s Pankaj Agarwal is more forthcoming: “I believe in free trade. It is extremely difficult to hire all of the technology people [at the right price] that are required here in Vancouver and the option is to outsource and to operate at a global level and access the resources that are available in places such as India.”
While summing up, BCBusiness reports “Without question, outsourcing is a growing trend in B.C. What remains to be seen is just how great an effect it will actually have and whether the positives will outweigh the negatives over the longer term. One thing is certain though, the world is shrinking and the store is now always open”.
