The Challenge:
To develop an installer for a palmtop with customizable list of installable features.
The Solution:
Momentum developed an installer for the Palmtop where the user could specify a list of features that needed to be installed. The destination for this installation could be either the main memory or secondary storage of the Palm device. This application was a command-line application, as per client’s requirements, following appropriate parameters.
The application was developed in VC++ using the PalmOS SDK. Since the number of Palmtop models on which this application was to be deployed was high, testing was initially carried out on the Palm OS Simulator and emulator. By running Hot Sync Manager on the desktop, and Hot Sync client on the Palmtop, it was responsible to carry out the actual transfer of features on the Palmtop. The application was compiled into a PDB file and downloaded to a palmtop using the HotSync Manager, and tested.
